A deeply resolved and highly crafted interior, this full-scale renovation by Sydney-based Studio Minosa transforms a suburban family home in Melbourne’s Brunswick into a sanctuary of substance and soul. Designed for a vibrant family of five, the project reimagines space, function, and feeling — creating a home that is richly tactile, emotionally grounded, and enduringly personal.
Spanning two levels, the home has been restructured to support the evolving dynamics of family life. Generous, light-filled living areas now flow with clarity and ease, while transition spaces — once overlooked — are activated to enhance movement and allow light to travel through the home. A sculptural spiral staircase connects the two levels, acting as both a dramatic centrepiece and a practical spine for daily life.
A robust palette of natural materials grounds the interiors in permanence: warm oak laid in oversized herringbone, softly veined quartzite, tactile microcement, and refined metals that age with grace. Custom arched doors with ribbed glass offer a sense of intrigue — discreetly concealing a bar, coffee station, and walk-in pantry — each one expressing a layered, modern reference to the surrounding Victorian architecture.
